The American Film Institute (AFI) rated
this one of the "Top 10 Funniest Movies Ever Made," and for good
reason!
Robert Hayes stars as an ex-fighter pilot
who finds himself at the controls of a commercial airliner after the crew
are poisoned by bad airline food. Julie Hagerty plays Hayes' love
interest and a stewardess on the same flight.
With an all-star supporting cast that
includes Peter Graves, Robert Stack, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Leslie
Nielsen (as the doctor), this film is a non-stop ride of verbal thrusts
and sight-gag parrys, well worth the price of a ticket!

Trivia:
The casting of professional basketball player Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as a
member of the flight crew was a reference to pro football player Elroy 'Crazylegs'
Hirsch's role as a pilot in the serious airplane disaster film Zero Hour!
(1957). This film was nominated for a Golden Globe award.

Goofs:
Crew or equipment visible: When Striker comes back into the cockpit after
talking to the doc, he moves "Otto" out of the way and a hand
can be seen coming from behind the pilot's seat.
